it's the chinese new year once again.. with all the great food, meetups wif friends and relatives and not forgetting the ang baos.. there's also mini gambling sessions with my other cousins that we have only in the new year.. glad to see everyone doing so well and so happy..
what's the significance of this new year?? actually, i dunno if it has lost its significance.. it seems different from the previous new years ever celebrated.. the mood is there but it's just that it's not as lively and fun as before.. or maybe because i need to book in tonight and that's why i'll think it's a bit different this year.. come the next new year, i'll be about less than 3 months from O-R-Din but in the meantime, it's still a long, long way to go..
caught a great new year movie on the tv yesterday.. it's called my girl.. it's a very funny and entertainin show i should say.. it's that thai movie whereby Jeab, a young man working in Bangkok, receives word that his best friend from childhood, Noi-Naa is to be married. While driving back to his hometown, the memories of his friendship with her come flooding back, and their story is told in a flashback.
Jeab and Noi-Naa live in a small city. Their fathers are rival barbers, with shops situated next to each other, with only a sweet shop to separate them. Jeab's father favors efficiency and uses an electric trimmer. Noi-Naa's father, meanwhile, has a more contemplative, artistic approach, and uses scissors. Jeab notes that the results of both methods seem to be the same.
Jeab was to cross a busy street to play with the boys, and he fears getting hit by a car, he stays to play with the girls, which makes him the target of much taunting by the boys.
After that, He earns the trust of the boys after winning a soccer game for them and passes various tests in order to join them. But the one thing he must do is sever his ties to Noi-Naa. Jeab does so, quite literally, by cutting a rubber-band jump rope, which Noi-Naa is skilled at playing with.
From that moment on, Noi-Naa refuses to talk to Jeab. Then, one day, Jeab gets word that Noi-Naa is moving away. And, of course, on the day she is to leave, Jeab oversleeps and misses the chance to say his final goodbye to Noi-Naa. Jeab then give chase to pursue Noi-Naa and her family in their moving truck. But the motorcycle breaks down, and the truck rolls out of sight. Jeab is to never see Noi-Naa again... until her wedding when both of them already grew up (adapted from wikepedia)
like this show a lot.. it's a very heart warming show though the ending was kinda sad.. it's like the love they shared were so innocent that the kids didn't know it was love though the stuff they've been doing were like that of a couple's.. other than that, i am also reminisced of my childhood days.. playing of soccer, eating ice cream, running off to play after school, playing of country erasers to win other kids' erasers in contrast of this show when the kids blow the rubber band to topple another one to win over his rubber band.. oh ya, that Jeab kid won lots of rubber band to make a rubber-band jump rope for Noi-Naa that he broke but he didn't get a chance to give it to her.. that's such a pity.. though the scenerio was a bit different but the same old feeling was there.. just that i was short of a childhood sweetheart..
chinese new year's over just like that, gone in a blink of an eye.. i enjoyed myself very much, won a 'lil bit of money but it could have been more lively, that's my opinion la.. gotta book in tonight and i'll be the stand in platoon sergeant this week as my platoon sergeant is on leave.. dunno if it'll be fun or troublesome to be in charge my other fellow 13 sergeants..
going to have a shooting test this saturday.. 200$ for marksman..but i don't get to book out!! Arghz..

Happy Valentine's Day.. well, i'm supposed to be in camp but dunno why my platoon sergeant let us off at 3 plus to go out.. that's really very nice and understanding of him.. but the thing is got no date.. =/ so off home i went to do what's required to prepare for the new year..
recently posted to this new camp, the people there are generally very nice other than the rsm who's kinda tough on us.. had running training for armour road relay on mon, wed and fri.. soccer training on tues.. they are forming a soccer team.. tues and thurs nights off.. that is if we've got nothing to do.. (p.s: we'll usually finish what's required in the afternoon.. lolx..)
other than that, i've been moving cupboards and beds around the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th storey of my block.. preparing the necessities for the incoming recruits.. other than that, we'll just be resting in bunks, having unlimited canteen breaks and waiting for our meals.. and the training for the mortar peeps is planned by ourselves because nobody knows the mortar other than ourselves and we decided to refresh the stuff we did in artillery the next following week.. other than that, it was quite relaxed to be in the support company..
i guess when the recruits come, we won't get so much free time.. so in the meantime, i'll just enjoy, do what's required and relax.. =D

finally graduated from artillery institute as a 3rd sergeant from the pioneer batch of the MTC course.. In the beginning, we would all want it to end. But in the end, you want it to start all over again.. it was a enjoyable and fun time we had there not mentioning the tough and rigorous training we went through.. gonna report to the same old kranji camp tomorrow..
for everyone's information, i'm going to armour and not staying at artillery.. i've came across the course results and i've found out that i'm 5th in the whole course.. that's not bad already.. though the top 3 will get silver and golden bayonets.. but who cares as long i try my best.. and i got to find out it's not that my results are bad that i got posted to armour.. on the other hand my results are good so i got to go to the armour unit as the sergeant from armour chose me to become one of the four vehicle commanders.. he told me and two of my friends that we are being chosen to be platoon sergeant candidates.. =/
oh man, i wouldn't want to be a platoon sergeant.. i would have to do reservist for 5 extra cycles in future.. pray i don't get chosen.. so til then i'll be washing tanks, caterpillar cars and other vehicles til the recruits come in june..
i wanna thank all my fellow course mates, instructors and not forgetting my sergeant major who let me off yesterday for a press release of my final year project.. went to tampines mall's 1A curry pok stall.. reporters from lian he zao bao and the sp full stop newspaper came.. asked us about the project and stuff.. took a lot of photos and also made a new friend.. she's tracy.. the eldest daughter of the boss of 1A curry pok.. she was a graduate from sp and she's like 24 and she's helping her dad with the family business as a manager or something.. it was interesting hearing her talk about the entrepreneur story of her dad.. by the way the official release of the chocolate/cheese curry pok is on the 9th of febuary.. it's kinda like a promotion for valentine's day.. everyone should go try it.. though it's kinda big and you'll get tired of it when you eat too much so i suggest couples should buy it to share.. i think it's at $3.90 for 2.. definitely worth the price.. but i would prefer it to be like those i made for my project.. the mini version of curry pok.. like the cornetto mini ice cream in contrast to the cornettos of original size..
sometimes i would also like to help out in the family business but i know nuts about business and carrying on the family business is indeed a great challenge.. gotta go back to unit tomorrow.. and here comes the driving test again.. arghz.. i don't have much confidence in passing it but i'll try my best..
in the process of registration of the university application.. hope it'll be successful.. be back on weekends again.. Study well for those taking exams and also not forgetting to set aside adequate time for relaxing.. =)

finally back from 3 days of outfield.. it was fun sitting on top the vehicle, holding a machine gun and commanding the whole vehicle.. the missions were relatively easy to accomplish.. driving around to bomb the so called targets.. quite lame but fun..
well, i didn't get to stay back in artillery as an instructor.. my results were the same as one of my platoon mates and the instructors decided to cast votes.. in the end more votes went to him and he got to stay instead.. i think another reason i wasn't chosen was because a sergeant that's on course chose me and 13 others to go to his unit.. maybe his unit will be a more fun place to be.. though no more staying out and a 8 to 5 job but i think it should be okay because i'll be training recruits.. haha..
other than that, i'm gonna get a black beret since i'm considered under armour.. and the pay's higher than artillery.. just that i think i'll eat more sand in the future..
time to register for uni.. still not quite sure what to register for.. but i've sure seen lots of interesting courses to enrol.. who knows i might even take up teaching.. haha.. teaching is really very enriching.. imparting our own skills and knowledge to another is just so cool..
